Getting to know Andy Cownie

I’ve recently been asked by a number of people about when/how I discovered my psychic ‘gifts’ and how I currently use them. So here are my experiences that have brought me to where I am today, and my current understanding of how I work as a psychic medium.

Growing up I was always interested in the paranormal, psychic and ghosts/spirits. It was a topic that intrigued me and I never really put much thought into whether ‘life’ after death was possible, I just assumed it was. I had a number of experiences growing up where I saw spirits and for the most I wasn’t afraid but still knew that most people wouldn’t understand, so only told my family and close friends. One common sight was a young boy running happily down the hallway of my family home, or running around the back yard.

Around the age of 18, I started seeing and hearing quite a few unusual things that I couldn’t quite explain and grew quite fearful. On one occasion I was awoken to a figure standing over me, with it’s hand on my shoulder, trying to speak to me. I couldn’t move or make a noise and when I tried to scream it flew back into the corner of the room where it stayed for several minutes looking at me. I would also hear my name being called at random times by a voice that didn’t belong to anyone nearby, and once saw a hand on my shoulder while working at the computer. The fear caused by these events caused me to move house and they soon stopped, life went on, and over time I forgot about these experiences.

During this hiatus from the paranormal I was introduced to Neuro Linguistic Programming, and Life Coaching. Topics that excited me as they helped me understand myself and the people around me, and a passion for helping people grew inside me. Not long after becoming qualified I found that in working with clients I would instinctively know what they wanted to see me for, and how to help them, something that I soon learnt wasn’t ‘normal’ for a therapist or coach.

It was several years later when similar ‘paranormal’ occurrences started up again, consequently when I once again moved house. This time I started seeing an old lady around the house quite often, and would find bobby pins all over the place. This was in a house with just myself, and my partner (male), so there was no explanation of where they came from. This time I was more intrigued than afraid, so I reached out and decided to learn more about spirituality.

I found a course at the “Australian Centre for Spiritual Development” which was an introduction to spiritual development, and I started learning about all manner of spiritual and psychic topics. My eyes were widened by the information I was learning about and I soon began to realise that I had experienced many of the phenomena discussed. So much so that the other students were astonished at my stories, and as we started to practice psychic activities, I found that I had quite a natural ability.

It was here that I was also introduced to mediumship, another topic that interested me but made me feel quite apprehensive to try, due to past experiences. I soon found that grounding and protection negated the fear as did building a relationship with my spirit guides. Finally I felt that I had tools to make what I had feared for so long, now become something exciting and safe.

In practicing my mediumship, I found all of my other psychic gifts grew in strength, and my ability to connect with people’s loved ones in spirit became second nature. I studied many other spiritual topics such as Reiki, Crystal Healing, Channeling, Meditation, Sacred Geometry, Shamanism and more.

Now with tool-sets that spanned personal development (NLP and life coaching) and psychic/intuitive development, I saw the benefits of each and how they could benefit each other. Now I am happy working in both worlds, and combining each where it makes sense to do so to help myself and others
